In the beginning there was...

I'm a bit late to the game unfortunately. I've attended more cons without Cosplaying then I personally prefer. Now I'm 23 and only getting older, and my golden years of Cosplay are slipping away before my eyes. I've cosplayed twice before at this point. Once as Horo from spice and wolf, and once as Simca. Both outfits were handmade by friends with much more experience sewing than I had, and I simply paid for the materials. Now i'm finding I'd really like to be more hands on with my cosplay.

I pretty much started out with no real grasp of what I was doing. I didn't know how to pose and I was awkward, and shy. The costume was great, and very well made, but I wasn't so great in it. The photo to the left is one of the few existing photos of my Horo cosplay from that con. It didn't help that both of my chosen cosplays turned out to be from anime that I didn't realize was so obscure.

While cosplaying Simca I had more people ask if I was cosplaying High school of the dead than I could count, and most seemed disappointed or confused when I corrected them on the anime. I could have sworn Air Gear was more popular then that. After all, I'd heard of it, and I didn't do a ton watching or reading at the time. (I still don't.) That said, my initial debut of simca was rather horrendous as well. I had no idea what to do with my body, and I'm sure most of the pictures I had taken of me were downright awful. Case in point. ---->

I did get invited to a photoshoot though, as I was the only Simca the Air Gear group had seen all con. I got at least one decent photo out of that.
Since then I've learned how to cake on makeup for the camera, and at least make myself look flattering some of the time. I'd love to have the cosplay taken in (It's a bit billowy right now whereas the character wears much tighter clothing), and have myself a real, honest photoshoot. Maybe after I make a few adustments to it. (I'd like to do a legitimate job on the hat, and boots. Maybe do her legwarmers instead.)

In any case. Now that I've made my introduction I might as well state my intentions. Iwant to become a cosplay connoissuer. I want to be so passionate about it, and become great enough to have to turn people away for pictures. It's kind of my own little version of being in the lime light. It'll be awhile before I reach that point skill-wise, but I'm excited to improve.
