Cosplay plans, and a bit of work.

Having skipped Sakuracon for the second year running, I once again found myself feeling incredibly distressed and left out. I didn't realize it was so much of a part of who I am. I just desperately missed the atmosphere more than anything. It was almost like feeling at home with my surroundings. That was something I didn't get with all the grandeur of PAX Prime. Sure it was int he same convention center, with a lot fo the same elements. There were panels, and cosplay, and vendors. Some of the displays were downright spectacular. Much higher on the awesome scale then anything I'd seen at Sakuracon.

As awesome as PAX was I felt like there was something missing the entire time. Almost as if I didn't quite belong. I'm not nearly as much of a gamer as my boyfriend is, but I was still excited to be there. Especially with the Halo 4 panel. (Quick segway, I've been working on sculpting Cortana and it's off to a great start.)

In any case, there's no point in me going back to Sakuracon unless I set myself up to truly enjoy it. Which is a huge part of my drive to Cosplay this year. I did it the last two years I went. Why not do it again? Only this time, I wanted to be an integral part of the experience of creating a Cosplay from scratch.

There are a couple of Cons on the roster. I have plans to attending Geek Girl Con in October as a sort of warm up. I plan to Cosplay Arkham Asylum Harley Quinn. It'll be fun to do something inspired by western comics. I've talked my boyfriend into Cosplaying scarecrow, and had already decided on Harley with a friend who has chosen Ivy for herself. I know there is a lot of batman cosplay, but it's a start for me. I figure it'll be a warm up for what I plan next.
This particular cosplay offers me a unique opportunity. There is no way I have the skill set for Harley's corset. So I discussed commissioning it with a friend of mine who is excellent at working with Textiles. She's agreed to let me sit in on the experience and learn as she makes it. That should give me some pretty invaluable knowledge, that I can put toward future endeavors.

I also had a sewing machine generously donated to me. A former coworker of mine was tired of explaining why he was in possession of a pink sewing machine, and decided that he'd put it to better use by sending it my way. It's a cute little thing. I do still need to evict the spider living in it before I can get to work cleaning it up and oiling it. Don't worry. The spider will be perfectly happy in my potted plant garden.

I will also be attending Sakuracon next April. I'm actually super excited to be going back and I wanted to cosplay something that would just as exciting. After asking around, picking peoples brains, and looking at tons of characters from different shows and games I settled on Aigis from Persona 3. I'm still working my way through the storyline of the game (My god some of the music is awful), and have yet to run into her character, but I can be pretty easily enticed by an interesting character design since that's what I mainly do when I draw.
I'll be cosplaying her regular outfit to start (The third one in, in the image I provided), though I'd love to do several of her incarnations, and I'm especially excited to work my way up to her armor and weapons. I can't wait to get to a point where I'm proficient enough to make them myself. I've already purchased a wig, and a few basic starter elements such as white stirrupped leggings, and a leotard to modify. I have some ideas of how I'm going to go about the rest but nothing solidified. I'll be sure to update my progress as I go though.
